I have more than 22 years of communication experience. Prior to senior consulting stints with two international human capital consulting firms, I was director of internal and executive communication for Sprint Corporation. Earlier still, I directed internal and external communication for not-for-profit organizations.

When I left not-for-profit for the corporate world, I needed a new cause. The employee became my cause and has been ever since. I’m passionate about internal communication, especially when it delivers measureable value to the organization.

I’m also passionate about teaching and passing on knowledge. That’s why we try to teach as we go in every assignment, so our clients know how to do things better when we’ve left. This is also why I love to present and speak to groups. I truly believe we have much to learn from each other and generating discussion in a workshop or conference session brings me great pleasure. I get really excited when I get to talk with people about technology, change and process issues.

I believe that internal communicators need to be better internal consultants. That’s why I published Consulting Skills for Communicators, sold by IABC.

I give my time back to my profession by staying involved in the International Association of Business Communicators. I’m a past member of the International Board of Directors and accredited by IABC. I recently served as the chair of the 2008 IABC Southern Region Conference held in Denver in September 2008. I have a bachelor’s of fine art in public relations with a minor in dance performance from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, USA.

Outside of work, I am just mad about my husband of 20 years, Allyen, my two great kids, Max and Avery, and our Kerry Blue Terrier Guthrie. If I find any spare time, I’m usually sewing, or buying fabric to sew. Or cooking, camping, biking, hiking…
